• Notes

  In the 1920 census, Joseph, at age 42, is listed as head of household and a farmer, living with his older brother Patrick and widowed sister Mary Hill, and Mary's daughter, Alice. This was the family farm in Sterling Township, Vernon County, Wisconsin. Joseph died at 76 from prostrate cancer, senility, and a fractured right hip. He had spent seven weeks in Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua. Joseph never married.
