The house they lived in at the time of Richard's death in 1932, was

      house at 71 South Spaulding.

  • Notes
    • Richard was baptized on 30 January, 1872, at Meenskehy in Dromtarriff
parish. Witnesses to the baptism were Pat Reidy and Ellen Cosgrave.

Richard Cronin came to the U.S. in 1892 (along with his brother,
Patrick, and sisters, Anne and Mary) and was naturalized in 1897. Four
other Cronin siblings remained in Ireland. In the 1900 census, Richard
is listed as a day laborer, and renting a house at 640 North Division.
By 1920, he was a lieutenant in the Buffalo police department, and later
was made captain. His wife, Julia, was a dressmaker. Richard and his
family lived at 94 Good Avenue. (In the early 1950's, the house at Good
Avenue was moved down the block to 71 South Spaulding. Two other houses
were also moved to make room for a Chevrolet dealer to expand.) When
Richard died of cancer in 1932, he was waked in his house. They had a
difficult time getting the casket down from the second floor and through
the hallway! Due to his association with the police, there were 125
cars in his funeral procession to St. Agatha's Church on Germania
Street, and then on to Holy Cross Cemetery in Lackawanna. He died on
the day he celebrated his birthday (which doesn't seem to exactly
coincide with christening records). Oddly, his wife Julia also died on
      her birthday.

Julia was born 24 June, 1871, in Knockduff in Cullen Parish, County Cork,
Ireland. She died on 24 June, 1946, of breast cancer that had spread.
As is Richard, Julia is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Lackawanna.
