  	This birth date is implied from the census. His death record shows him as being 72 in 1911 which would make him born in 1839, however this would make him too young to marry for the first time in 1855. There is no real indication of his parents' names on any records, however we note that he named his sons Thomas - it appears one from each marriage. We know this because he was staying with one born 1857 in the 1911 census and one born 1872 in the 1901 census. Both lived at Glentimon. So we have placed him in the family with father Thomas.

  	Castlederg CofI burial record says he was 72, but the census only a month or two earlier recorded his age as 76, so possibly there was a transcription error, and perhaps he was 77. No record clearly shows 72. apparently some people may have put their age up a bit in the 1911 census as the pension was introduced in 1908. Probably not relevant for him as still showing as under 70. "The discrepancy between ages (especially in the older age group) in the ten years between 1901 and 1911 can often be explained by the introduction of Old Age Pensions in 1908.  The Old Age Pensions Act 1908 introduced a non-contributory pension for 'eligible' people aged 70 and over. It came into law in January 1909 across England, Wales,Scotland and Ireland.  To be eligible, applicants had to have an income of less than £31 and 10 shillings per annum (£31.50), and had to 'be of good character"' per Robert Forrest email 5 Oct 2021 to Co Tyrone group.
