  • Notes  Married:
    • John Christianson came to the U.S. on 1 June, 1883, travelling on the Angelo with his younger brother Osvald, and his nephew Christian (Ole's son). For the journey and living in the U.S., John took the last name of HOLMAN. On the ship's record, Johan is listed as a smed, or blacksmith. His wife, Maren, their seven children, and Osvald's wife, Caroline, and their four children, followed on 15 August, 1884, travelling on the Rallo. Both the Angelo and Rallo left from the port of Christiana (Oslo). Two more children were born to John and Maren in Cameron, WI. Cameron is in the upper and western halves of Wisconsin, in Barron County.

The 1900 census lists John C. with his wife, Maren, and three sons: Martin G., Otto, and Albert living on a farm in Stanley Township in Barron County, with John's occupation being a farmer. Martin G. is listed as a farm laborer, and Otto and Albert as attending school. Maren is listed as having had 10 children (which leaves one unaccounted for).

Christ is listed as a farmer, living in Maple Grove Township, Barron County, with his wife Ida (b. Dec 1879) and son Guy (b. July 1899). Christ and Ida were married about Oct, 1898.

George and John is listed as living together in Barron City, and working as a laborer at a flour mill and as a miller at a feed mill, respectively.

Oli seems to have moved to Washburn, Bayfield County (where his uncle Ole lives), and is working as a teamster there.

The father, John C. died 15 April, 1901, of pneumonia and heart failure, in Cameron. He is buried in W. Cagamo Prarie Cemetery.

The " History of Barron Co., Wisconsin, 1922" by H. C. Cooper Jr. & Co., Minneapolis, Minn., page 750, describes John C. and his family as follows:

"John Holman, an early settler of Stanley Township, was born in Norway, and was there educated, reared and married . In 1883 he came to America and located on 80 acres of wild land one mile east of the present village of Cameron.

When he landed in Chicago he was $300 in debt, and had but $20 in his pocket . Even this was stolen from him, so when he started in Barron County he had nothing, either in the way of money or equipment, furniture or clothes. But he had health and willing hands, and he had the incentive of establishing a home for his family. So he toiled away, erected a log cabin and slab and straw sheds, cleared a small tract of land, and put in some crops. Then he sent for his family, then consisting of his wife and seven children. ... To the original farm, forty more acres were afterward added.

Mr. Holman was especially interested in church affairs. He helped to build the first church of the Norwegian Lutheran Congregation at Pekegema Prairie, and served as its secretary and treasurer as long as he lived. In his death, the town lost a good citizen. His wife is still living and is nearly eighty years old."
