PLOUGHING MATCH
On Thursday last, the Annual Ploughing Match of the Strabane Branch of the North-West Society was held in the Demesne of the Marquis of Abercorn, at Baronscourt. At half-past eleven o’clock TWENTY-SIX ploughs started, the superior appointment and efficacy of which fully maintained the character of the farmers in the district as spirited and improving agriculturalists. The judges were Mr. Robert McCrea, Mr. Thomas Lowther and Mr. Nathaniel Patton, who after a careful inspection of the several lots came to the following decision on the merits of the different competitors:

1st Place to Bernard Cane, Ploughman to the Marquis of Abercorn
2nd Place to John Houston, Ploughman to Sir J. J. Burgoyne
3rd Place to William McLaughlin, Ploughman to the Marquis of Abercorn
4th Place to Christopher Doolan, Ploughman to James Auchinleck, Esq.
