***Brunswick Clubs were formed by Protestants concerned at the implications of Catholic Emancipation which was granted in 1828***
At a numerous and respectable Meeting, held in the open air, in Charlemont, on Saturday, the 4th instant –
A.N. MOLESWORTH, Esq. in the Chair, the following was unanimously agreed to: -
1. Proposed by J. R. Martin, Esq., and seconded by J. L. Crawford, Esq. –
That the Constitution of this Kingdom claims and justly deserves our love and veneration, and that it is our duty, to hand down to posterity, as we received it from our forefathers, purely and essentially Protestant.
2. Proposed by Captain Hawkins, and seconded by Captain Dobbin –
That we view, with gratitude and pride, that constellation of rank, respectability and property, which already compose the “Brunswick Club of Ireland”, and that, after this bright example, we this day establish a Club in the same spirit, to be designated the Charlemont and Moy Brunswick Club
3. Proposed by Captain William Harpur, and seconded by John Jackson, Esq., -
That such persons as are now present, and subscribe to the foregoing Resolutions, be Members of the Club, together with such others as have signified their desire to have their names enrolled.
4. Proposed by Mr. Wm. Jackson, and seconded by Mr. Wm. Pattyson.
That the subscriptions to this Club be paid annually, in advance, and that the same do not exceed One Pound, nor be less than Two Shillings and Six-pence per annum and that such persons as shall hereafter be desirous of becoming Members, be admissible on the recommendation of three Members of the Committee of Management
5. Proposed by Mr. John Young, and seconded by Thomas Dawson, Esq. –
That this Club have a President, Vice-Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurer, and Committee – and that Colonel William Verner, be requested to become President.
6. Proposed by the Rev. Robert Hogg, and seconded by Mr. James Sloan –
That the following be Vice-Presidents:

7. Proposed by J.L. Crawford, Esq., and seconded by Lieutenant Joseph Clark –
That James Sloan do act as Secretary, and Mr. Wm. Jackson and John Caulfield, Esq., be Assistant-Secretaries, and that J.R. Martin, Esq., be Treasurer.
8. Proposed by Mr. James Sloan, and seconded by Wm. Byers, Esq. –
That the following gentlemen, together with the Officers already mentioned, do form the Committee of Management, with liberty to add to their numbers:

9. Proposed by the Rev. Charles Richardson, and seconded by the Rev. Mr. Ferguson –
Resolved – That as the principle of the Brunswick Constitutional Club is self-defence, its members feel it to be their duty, particularly to impress upon the body of the Protestant population, the necessity from carefully abstaining from everything offensive in their language and behaviour, in all their modes of exhibiting their principles, or maintaining their opinions.
10. Proposed by the Rev. Charles Richardson, and seconded by Mr. John Sinclair – That A.N. Molesworth, do leave the Chair, and that the same be taken by the Rev. Robert Hogg.
