To Sir John James Burgoyne,

SIR,

It is with no ordinary feelings of gratitude and exultation, that We, the Tenantry of the Marquis of Abercorn avail themselves of the auspicious era of our Noble landlord’s arrival at age, to present to you, the kind friend and mediator between us, our hearty congratulations of the event.

For a period of under seven and twenty years, you have watched over our interests with affectionate regard, and at the same time, that the adverse vicissitudes of human life amongst us, were primary objects of your beneficial concern, the responsible duties that devolved on you, as Agent to so extensive a property were solicitously and uprightly discharged…………

To conclude however – that you may long enjoy the dignity accorded to your private worth, and be continued in your private relations to us and our families in the ardent prayer of an affectionate and grateful tenantry. We only regret, that you have declined accepting from our hands the more valuable Testimonial we had designed, as expressive of our feelings.

The accompanying address to our Noble landlord and the Earl of Abercorn, we beg the favour of you transmitting on your earliest opportunity.

Given under our Hands on this the first day of May 1832.
