TRUEMAN

Mr. and Mrs. John Trueman, of County Tyrone, Ireland, with their two daughters, Elizabeth, aged 11, and Isabella, age 9 (Mrs. Jos. Goodfellow) arrived at Mr. Holmes, Bradford, [West Gwillimbury Twp., Simcoe Co. Ontario, Canada] about July 10, 1846. Mr. Holmes loaned John Trueman his horse to ride to Churchill [Innisfil Twp., Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada] to the home of his son Hugh. Hugh, only having oxen, borrowed horses and went to Bradford. When he came back to Churchill with his mother and sisters, his father was ill. He died on the morning of July 12 and was buried that day in the Sixth Line Cemetery. His daughter, Elizabeth, died the same evening and was buried beside her father.

Hugh Trueman was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, in 1819, and at the age of 17 came to America, living for several years near Philadelphia. He was married in Toronto in 1842 to Jane Moore. Soon after they moved to Innisfil, among the pioneers. Mr. Trueman identified himself with the Presbyterian Church and became a ruling elder; also was sent as a representative to the General Assembly. At this time there was a great controversy about installing an organ. Mr. and Mrs. Trueman were exemplary people of true Christian character. Mrs. Trueman died Aug. 14, 1885, and Mr. Trueman April 30, 1892. They had two sons, John and Thomas.
