ROBBERY

On the morning of Wednesday last, about 2 o’clock, the dwelling house of Mr. McClure of Findrum, near Convoy, was entered by two ruffians, one of them undisguised – the other having a cloth over his face and a straw rope about his neck. Mr McClure (who is considerably advanced in years) was in bed, where his sister, who barely had time to adjust her clothes, came. They warned him at his peril, to remain quiet, as it was his money that they wanted. Then they proceeded to bind Mr, McClure, his sister and the servant girl, who appear to be the only persons in the house at the time. Mr. McClure gave them the keys of his desk in which they got about £2 in notes and some silver. Not content with his boots, they tossed every article of linen in which they considered cash might be concealed. They then gathered about five stones of flax, and a few spangles of yarn which they put in a sack: but as their operations seem to have been directed by some villains outside, who informed them it was full time to make their escape, being then about five o’clock, then precipitously withdrew, bearing the sack and flax, and politely bid Mr McClure farewell, and assured him he should see their faces no more. No trace of the offenders has been discovered

Mr. McClure’s given name is not revealed, but is probably Andrew:
