First Strabane Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Strabane, Co. Tyrone
Founded c1660, Strabane congregation’s first minister was REV. ROBERT WILSON. He and many of his congregation fled to the city of Derry seeking refuge during the Seige in 1689, where he died. Replacing the 1693 meetinghouse located in Orchard Street, the new church opened for public worship in 1872. First and Second Strabane congregations united in 1911 and the united congregation worshipped in the First Church on Main Street. Unfortunately, it was completely destroyed by fire on Christmas Day 1938; only the walls, spire and bell survived. The congregation then worshipped in the former meetinghouse of the Second Congregation. A new church was erected on the Derry Road and opened in 1957.
