GILLYGOOLEY congregation was established in 1806 and the first meeting house erected shortly after; the first minister was the MR. JOHN WATSON who was ordained at Gillygooley. The congregation raised £60 c1835, to enable him to emigrate to New South Wales, Australia.

Surviving records of this congregation have been microfilmed by the staff of PRONI, Belfast where they may be consulted:

Baptisms 1848-66 and 1869-1984

Marriages 1845-1934

Communicants’ Roll 1892-1919

The condition of the original records, a degree of difficulty in discerning the handwriting and quality of filming make transcription challenging and wherever possible the Drumragh (1834) and Cappagh (1827) tithe applotment books (1830) and Griffiths Valuation (c1858) have been consulted in an attempt to confirm families and townland addresses. Original spelling has been retained.
