June 25 1822 DAVIS. At Letterkenny, on Monday night, the 10th instant, aged 53 years, Thomas Davis, Esq. Surgeon. As a professional man, he was highly respectable, nor was he less so in his private character, which was marked by singular equanimity of temper, genuine, but harmless wit, probity and humanity. Happy would it be for Society if every member of it were as guiltless of the odious vice of calumny as was the deceased; it was a point with him in cases where he could not commend, never to detract, and he experienced the advantage of this in the unbounded confidence with which he was treated, and the esteem in which he was held by every grade of his fellow townsmen. His removal from this fleeting world, from its suddenness, was peculiarity awful. A paralytic attack, from which he had been previously wholly free, severed him in one brief hour from an affectionate wife and offspring, and every terrestrial enjoyment, and consigned his mortal part to the home appointed for all living. His decease, while it has occasioned a chasm in Society, which will be long felt, is calculated to impress upon his surviving friends the fragility of the tenure of earthly existence. (Strabane Morning Post)

Apr 2 1833 STOPFORD. On Monday, the 25th inst. at Glendoen Glebe, near Letterkenny, the Rev. Joseph Stopford, D.D. Ex Fellow of Trinity College, Dublin, and for many years Rector of the Parish of Conwall, County of Donegal. The same happy and well-founded peace which had characterised him, and marked his long and useful ministry, accompanied him through his illness, did not forsake him in his last hour, and he meekly and triumphantly entered into his rest and slept in Christ in the 67th year of his age. Few men were more deservedly beloved than Dr. Stopford. The excellence of his character, the kindness of his disposition, his well-known liberality of sentiment towards Christians of every class, endeared him to the members of all denominations who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. He died universally beloved and lamented in Letterkenny and its neighbourhood. The inhabitants of the town gave the fullest proof of this they could afford, in shutting up all their shops and places of business during the funeral procession (Strabane Morning Post)
Apr 29 1834 GALLAGHER. It is with much regret we announce the death of Mr James Gallagher, at his residence Swillyview, near Letterkenny, on Friday the 25th inst. in the 80th year of his age, much and deservedly regretted by a numerous circle of friends and acquaintances; a kind Husband, a tender Parent, and in him the poor always found a warm and sincere Friend. The number and respectability of his Funeral, together with the heartfelt sorrow evinced by disinterested Friends is the best proof of the public esteem in which he was held (Strabane Morning Post)
May 20 1834 CRAWFORD. SUICIDE .... On Tuesday, the 7th instant, Samuel Delap, D. L., and J. V. Stewart, Esqrs. held an inquest on the body of Elizabeth Crawford, otherwise Lucas, who was found in a barn, at the house of her brother in Ardaganny, convenient to Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, suspended by a rope in a lifeless state. The deceased was an interesting looking woman, of about 25 years of age, and had been married only eight weeks ~~ the husband was over fifty. Strange to say, that after the marriage, she would on no account, consent to live with him, but became gloomy and dejected. Several efforts were made on the part of her friends to bring her to a right mind, but without effect ~~ and on the husband coming to see her lately, she stole out to the byre and attempted to strangle herself, but was discovered ~~ however, on Sunday morning last, she carried her fatal design into execution. The inquest was adjourned till Wednesday, when it came out in evidence, that the body had been concealed nearly twenty-four hours after being found; this circumstance occasioned a further adjournment till Tuesday next. We understand her stomach had been sent to Dublin for medical inspection, and in the meantime, an additional number of witnesses are summoned, the Magistrates being anxious to probe the affair to the bottom, which, after the decision of the Doctors they hope to be able to effect (Strabane Morning Post)

In this town, on Tuesday last, at the house of her son-in-law, Surgeon Patterson, R.N., Mrs Starrett, relict of Thomas Starrett of Letterkenny, Esq. and sister to the late Joseph Roulston, Esq. K.C.L.L.D. a lawyer whose eminence was long known throughout the North West circuit. On Thursday the remains of this estimable Lady (accompanied by a large assemblage of friends of all denominations, anxious to pay this melancholy tribute to departed worth), were interred in the churchyard of the latter town in the grave of her husband. It may be truly said, in her were united the genuine, but ostentatious, graces of Christianity -- she lived the life, as she died the death, of the righteous, relying on the alone atonement of her Redeemer. In the various relations of wife, mother, friend and acquaintance, few could excel her in goodness of heart or amiability of character (Strabane Morning Post)
